The Senufo are a people of over one million strong who live principally in the northern Ivory Coast, but whose cultural influence spreads over a much wider area of sub-Saharan Africa. They have a long-standing and important sculptural tradition which encompasses many types of objects, from seated and equestrian male ancestor figures to female images given in recognition of outstanding agricultural achievements. Another major motif for Senufo carvers is images of birds in flight, notably the hornbill, in Senufo myth one of the first creatures on earth, and an important symbol of fertility. Other sculptural forms include many varieties of ceremonial masks, carved architectural elements, musical instuments and cast brass and wrought iron objects.
Another artform, as influential as their sculptural style, is Senufo textile design. The products of these talented weavers, known as Korhogo cloth, is stylisticly related to the Kente cloth of Ewe artisans of the Volta region of Ghana, and is known for it's geometrical patterns, strong colors and natural linear rythms. Examples of Korhogo cloth designs were the inspirations for the scroll-, title-, and menubar patterns, the scroll arrows, and the active Resize boxes, as well as the desktop patterns and "About Box" that you will find in the Senufo color scheme. The scheme logo image is the bottom half of a Senufo ritual mask.

The Senufo package includes the color scheme, a folder of desktop patterns and, unless you choose to use the "light" version, a complete set of custom icons. After installing Kaleidoscope in your Control Panels folder, simply drop Senufo in the Kaleidoscope Color Schemes folder which goes in your Extensions folder. Then open the Kaleidoscope control panel and select Senufo. To install the desktop patterns, open your Desktop Patterns control panel and drop the patterns on the open Desktop Patterns window and select the one you want. (Personally, I like # 1, but to each his or her own!) The new icons will magically appear when you restart your Mac.
Though it should be functional at all color depths, please note that Senufo will look best on computers capable of 1000s of colors or more.
